Susan Crawford, queen of vintage has embarked on a very exciting project. Combining her passion for vintage and love of Shetland knitting, she brings you The Vintage Shetland Project. Susan has lovingly recreated 25 beautiful pieces from the Shetland museum, and they all have a story. These pieces are an amazing combo of different time periods, styles, and techniques. Each stitch has been painstakingly transcribed with the help of Susan’s knitty knowhow and her husband Gavin’s technical assistance with a special charting software to help recreate the intricate colourwork patterns.
This entire project showcases Susan’s Fenella range of yarn. This beautiful wool is a 2ply yarn that knits up at a vintage 3ply weight. Ginger Twist Studio had a hand in helping to do some dyeing of custom colourways. Check out the video of Susan and I hanging in the dye studio!
These pics should give you a feel of what is to come! Don’t worry, they will soon be available for you to knit yourself!!
All the pieces are knit and the patterns are in the process of being written up. The next step is making this concept into a print book, and that is where you can help. Check out her crowdfunding campaign on Pubslush and get involved. This is a fantastic project to support and has full Ginger Twist Studio approval.
