A historic knitting music event is happening Monday 6 October 2014 in Edinburgh. Come and join us!
Knit one, pearl 1942! A Stitch in Time: Lost Knitting Songs from the World Wars is a musical lecture about knitting (yes, knitting!) songs that were written during WWI and WWII in both North America and Britain. Melanie Gall is a Canadian musician and knitting scholar, as well as co-host of the Savvy Girls Podcast, a popular knitting show. The songs are told from the view of the soldier, the sweetheart, the mother knitting for her sons on the battlefield, and the society gossips. The music is, in turn, funny, poignant, inspiring and heartbreaking. It reflects the hopes, fears, dreams, and struggles of the ‘Soldier Girls at Home’ – the women left behind.
There is singing, knitting, and even a draw for a free Knitting CD. More information about this music is available at: www.knittingsongs.com. Melanie will be at Ginger Twist Studio on Monday 6 October at 4pm for a wee meet and greet, so stop by on your way to knit club to say hello and have a browse. We will then head to The Safari Lounge at 5pm for knit club. A Stitch in Time: Lost Knitting Songs from the World Wars will be performed at The Safari Lounge, 21 Cadzow Place, Edinburgh EH7 5SN around 5:30pm or so. It runs 30 minutes, and is suitable for all ages. This event ties in ever so nicely with the October theme of SOCKTOBERFEST, and I’m really looking forward to it!
