Wool of the Month: Cumbria Fingering

Featured as September’s Wool of the Month is the beautiful and sheepy Cumbria Fingering from The Fibre Company. This magical mix of Merino, Masham and Mohair is inspired by England’s Northwest region. I like to think they realised the power of alliteration when creating this blend; it certainly makes me smile. Spun into a fingering weight at 300metres per 100gram skein, the palette is just wonderful.

Ginger Twist is currently stocking 5 shades: BUTTERMERE (yellow), SCAFELL PIKE (grey), CASTLERIGG (purple), WINDERMERE (blue) and HELVELLYN (green). I tell you, it was really difficult to select only these shades!

Now for a look at pattern options. This smooth 3-ply yarn is well suited for a wide variety of projects. The whole reason I ordered this yarn for the shop was because I wanted to make Bristol Ivy’s Prue, which was designed specifically for the Cumbria Fingering. I love its look of comfy elegance, and I’m going to go for the green shade called ‘Helvellyn.’ Which would you choose?

Melanie Berg has designed a couple of lovely shawls in The Fell Garth Collection that have certainly taken my fancy. Tamdou incoorperates lattice lace and garter stitch using 3 different shades (1 skein of each).

And for all you texture lovers out there, Ingwer is a real treat. Doesn’t it look amazing in the ‘Buttermere’ colourway?!

These yarns will remain in the window for the month, and retail at £18 per 100gram skein. Pick a project and come squish while they last!
